Tinā is an inspiring drama, a light-hearted tear-jerker, and the story of Samoan teacher Mareta Percival. Struggling after the death of her daughter in the Christchurch earthquakes, Mareta reluctantly takes on the role of substitute teacher at an elite, wealthy private school and is surprised to find children crying out for guidance, inspiration, and love.

Using the symphony of her culture to empower her students, she forms a choir, bringing them together. Mareta has to inspire her kids while dealing with bias from a privileged community keen to put this colourful Samoan teacher in her place.

Watching her students flourish allows Mareta to begin her journey of healing and finally understand teaching her students has allowed her to fulfil her one dream of being a mother again. This comes before she finally gives over to her illness and passes away in peace.
