Simeon ten Holt, vooral bekend door zijn meesterwerk Canto Ostinato, wordt in de film niet alleen herdacht als exceptioneel muzikant maar ook als uitzonderlijk mens. De verhalen van dierbaren en collega’s schetsen een intiem portret van de gepassioneerde componist. Aangevuld met een schat aan archiefmateriaal wordt de muziek en het leven van Simeon ten Holt tot leven gewekt.

Im Jahr 1968 verwandelt sich das Klassenzimmer eines Münchner Mädchen-Gymnasiums unter der Leitung des Jung-Regisseurs Edgar Reitz in ein Filmstudio. Die "Filmstunde" beginnt: der in der Filmgeschichte erste dokumentierte Versuch, Filmästhetik als eigenständiges Fach zu unterrichten. 2023: Edgar Reitz, der weltberühmte Regisseur der Heimat-Trilogie, wird von einer älteren Dame angesprochen.
